Chances are if you listen to the local country radio station in the mornings, you are already familiar with the comedy of Jimmy the Janitor.
On Oct. 1, Jimmy, also known as retired broadcaster Alexander (Sandy) Gillis, brings his unique brand of country humour to the Berwick Lions Club. The event is being hosted as a fundraiser for the club, which recently set up new digs in the Kings Mutual Century Centre.
“We are really looking forward to this, it is going to be a really fun night,” said club president Charles MacDonald, who has seen Jimmy the Janitor in concert.
“It is a hilarious show from start to finish. You never stop laughing.”
Gillis’s Jimmy character has been going strong since he was first introduced on-air in 1987. MacDonald said the show provides “good clean entertainment” and “a country sense of humour that people in the Valley get.”
The jovial janitor has six CDs, a successful nationally syndicated radio show and has made many comedy appearances on CBC Radio-TV and the Comedy Network.
Doors for the licensed event open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and, if purchased in advance, will be entered into a draw to win a Jimmy the Janitor prize package.
Close to 100 tickets have already been snapped up, but the Lions hope to sell close to 250. Funds raised will benefit the Berwick Lions’ community work. Tickets can be purchased at Wilsons Pharmasave in Berwick or by calling 538-0071 or 538-3361.
