Remembrance Day Services in Wolfville yesterday were well attended, despite flu season fears. The Acadia and Dr. C. B. Lumsden MM Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.74 ceremony took place in University Hall.
Led by university assistant chaplain Virginia Cookman, the service included a reading of the honour roll of deaths in the two World Wars and Korean War for Acadia, Horton Academy, Acadia Seminary, Avonport, Grand Pre, Gaspereau, Greenfield, Greenqich, Port Williams, White Rock, Blac River and Wolfville.
Acadia president and vice-chancellor Ray Ivany, Acadia Students’ Union president Jon Cottreau and vice-president Caitlin Regan read passages from scripture.
The Acadia University Symphonic Band, directed by Ardith Haley and Annapolis Valley Honour Choir, directed by Bill Perrot and Heather Fraser, provided music. Representatives of the Legion and Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Branch No. 74 formed the colour party and laid wreaths, with the assistance of Wolfville and Gaspereau Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
After the service, a parade, led by the Horton High marching band, proceeded to the university and Wolfville cenotaphs for placement of wreaths and prayers.
