Hundreds packed Kentville’s Memorial Park for the inaugural Valley’s Got Talent contest on Thursday, May 27. The Apple Blossom Festival (ABF) event, sponsored by K-ROCK 89.3 FM, was an entertaining evening packed with a variety of talented performers. It wasn’t easy for celebrity judges Sally Swanburg Wallace, ABF co-president, Jay Chetwynd of Smokin’ Entertainment, Jonathan Torrens of Street Cents, Jonovision and Trailer Park Boys fame and national recording star Chad Hatcher to narrow down the field of a dozen acts. Competing for the $1,000 top prize were musical acts The Pumps, Lawrence Meldrum, Matt “Confidential” Piggot, Laura Roy and Matt French and Dayliner; guitarist Curtis Thorpe; dance acts Kailee Ferdinand and Savannah Downey, Lacey Stevenson and Kendra Baltzer, and the ADC Community Boys Dance Crew; hula-hoop performer Abigail Smolenaars; stand-up comic Caleb Harris; and magician Anthony Stone. Thorpe, Roy and French, Piggot and Dayliner made the final four cut to move on to the second and final round but it was Dayliner that took home the $1,000 prize. The intermission featured a performance by Blue Print. Reporter Kirk Starratt was on hand and files the following half-hour video package featuring footage from all 12 competing acts and interviews with Jai Soloy of the winning band Dayliner and celebrity judge Jonathan Torrens.
