The Nova Scotia government is doubling its contribution to Berwick's Apple Dome community arena project.

The Berwick & District Community Association and its Kings Mutual Century Centre committee have told WHW Architects to prepare the tender documents for the new, modern, energy efficient 800-seat arena (complete with a 200-metre walking track); and a 5,000 square foot community room. Construction will begin in the spring; other phases - including a curling rink, outdoor pool and library - have yet to be confirmed.

The Department of Health Promotion and Protection added $2 million more to $2 million pledged several years ago to the Kings Mutual Century Centre. ”This funding from the province, coupled with the huge support we have received from our community, is great news and will help us move forward,” says George Moody, Apple Dome chairman.

The committee is now pursuing federal funding.
