New Minas Baptist Church ready to showcase $1.5 million upgrade
The hammers have stopped pounding, the paint is on the walls, the furniture is moved in. Now all that's left to do at New Minas Baptist Church is celebrate!
Their $1.5 million expansion is complete and the grand opening is this weekend, Nov. 7-9.
The church building is now much larger with new daycare rooms, classrooms, offices and meeting room space. Over five hundred people from across Kings County attend the church every week. The expansion was necessary to accommodate the quickly growing youth and children’s ministries.
The church has as many as 250 different children and youth in its building throughout the week. The expansion will also give more space for services to the community such as Inn from the Cold, Moms on a Mission, Friends in Retirement and others.
Most of the money for the expansion is coming from the church members. However, New Minas Baptist also received a grant from the provincial government that will be used toward the daycare facilities in the New Minas Children’s Centre. The church currently has 16 staff, nine of whom work in the New Minas Children’s Centre.
The grand opening celebration will start Friday afternoon with a Seniors' Tea from 2-4 p.m. On Friday night, there will be a concert of prayer.
Saturday kicks off at 9 a.m. with a huge children’s party. There will be carnival games, a bouncy castle, video game and movie theatre stations as well as clowns and face painting.
There will be a youth café with several bands Saturday night from 7-10.
Celebration services will be Sunday, Nov. 9 at 9:15 and 11 a.m. All events are free and everyone is welcome. New Minas Baptist Church is located on Commercial Street across from the golf course.
