Local children will soon be falling head over heels for Fishin' For Pickles.
This month, a father-daughter duo from New Ross will be bringing their infectious original kid tunes to Windsor.
Jamie Junger and his seven-year-old daughter, Sadie, are slated to perform Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at Mermaid Imperial Theatre.
Junger said the reaction to their CD, which was released in November 2011, has been a pleasant surprise.
“I've been playing music for quite a long time and putting out CDs and touring... and I've never, ever had the feedback that this one is generating,” said Junger, who toured the Canadian music scene during the 80s and 90s with The Wingnut's and Bob's Your Uncle.
“Parents are telling me that the kids love it and it's not driving them crazy, which is a compliment,” said Junger.
With songs like The Underwear Song and Hay Is For Horses, Cows Like It Too, the music features lyrics that children can easily relate to — and sing along with.
“Sadie and I wrote the CD together, and I also wrote it with a couple other kids,” said Junger. “I teach music as a living to kids and I got help from some of my students on these songs. Some of them were their ideas and some of it was a collaboration.”
The Jan. 19 show will be about 40 minutes long.
“When she was about three or four we started writing songs and she was right into that aspect of it, loved rhyming words and thinking of ridiculous topics and just being silly and having fun with it,” said Junger.
Like any upcoming star, Sadie occasionally doesn't feel like putting on a show. But, Junger said, the duo has a pact. If she committed to performing before an audience, she has to follow through.
“She goes between really loving performing and not being too sure about it. But generally, she's really quite into it and we're just trying to ride that line,” he said.
Junger said his talented adopted daughter plays the harmonica on one song as well as sings along with him to the other original hits.
The show is intended for children between the ages of two and 12. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for children.
