CANNING - On the first Sunday of the New Year the Canning United Baptist Church was a warm and hospitable breakfast destination.

The monthly community breakfast began with blueberry pancakes and now features pancakes, sausage, bacon, hash browns, baked beans and scrambled

eggs. No one left hungry.

The three-hour breakfast, according to Rev. Don Rafuse, started about a year ago. Parishioners donate the food and those attending, who come from around the area, pay what they can.

Among the cheerful volunteers was Hilda Hazel, 101, who collected contributions at the door.
