The Kingston Farmer’s Market will continue to offer consumers the best in locally-produced goods over the fall and winter from a new location in the Greenwood Mall.
“We wanted to keep our momentum going and keep building our customer base so when the mall approached us about setting up there, we jumped at the chance,” said market coordinator Colleen MacKinley. The market was established in June by an informal group of farmers, producers and artists; all of whom share an interest in promoting healthy living and supporting local business.
Under its new name, the Greenwood Mall Market will continue Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the mall’s centre court. MacKinley reported she has 20 vendors already signed up. October 21, vendors were selling a variety of fresh produce, breads and baked goods, prepared foods, wine and unique crafts, flowers, soap and jewelry.
“We have a lot of interest from vendors and we hope that we can draw the customers. Because, if we don’t, we won’t get the vendors,” explained MacKinley.
She thinks the indoor farmer’s market will be a great complement to existing mall businesses.
“Our market is about supporting all local businesses so, if we can draw more traffic for mall tenants, then that is a positive thing, too.”
