An early morning fire Sept. 2 in Western Kings County forced the closure of Bridge Street, the main connector between the communities of Kingston and Greenwood.
Members of the Kingston Volunteer Fire Department were called to Stark’s Headquarters hair salon, located at the intersection of Bridge and Victoria streets, shortly after 4 a.m. after a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from the two-story building.
Mutual aid from fire departments between Berwick to Lawrencetown were called in to help battle the blaze. Bridge Street was closed to traffic for several hours. The structure, which included a hair salon on the main level, and apartment units above and below, sustained major damage. No one was injured in the blaze, which is under investigation by the provincial fire marshall’s office.
