Earl blows out Kings County events

A dozen valiant vendors braved Earl's wind and rain Sept. 4. to man Wolfville's Farmers' Market and customers did show up to get their coffee, samosa and veggie fix. 

Although the storm's path shifted to the South Shore of the province from it's projected track through the Bay of Fundy, high wind and rainsThe market has a policy of not cancelling for weather, but the decision was made to pack up at 10:30.

Soaked vendors packed up tents and tables to make a break for shelter, even as a few shoppers wandered by.

A full market will take place Sept. 6- Labour Day monday- to make up for the early closure. For more information, see the market's web site.

Other storm related cancellations as of 11:30 included Berwick Gala Days events and Tremont's World Fair- postponed to Sept. 5 and Sept. 12 respectively- closure of the Acadia Athletic Complex,  Kentville's library, Prescott House, Aylesford Lake beach and provincial park.

Power outages have been reported in Kentville, New Minas and Coldbrook, Gaspereau and Greenwood. For Nova Scotia Power information, see their outage map.

As of 11 a.m., tropical storm, wind and rain warnings were still in effect for Kings County.  For up-to-date weather information, check Environment Canada's site.

    "The market has a policy of not cancelling for weather" - sounds like a stupid policy to me. I would think the safety of vendors and public would be more important than some macho point of principle.
