The Town of Kentville approved amendments to its Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw Nov. 5 to allow small-scale wind turbines.

Turbines with a generating capacity of less than 50 kilowatt hours and less than 170 feet tall will be allowed on properties in the industrial zone.  Setbacks from property lines, buildings and public right of ways must be at least equal to the turbine height. Development permit will be required and the town will notify residents within 500 feet before a permit is issued.

First reading on the amendments was giving July 30. A public participation meeting was held Sept. 12 and a public hearing took place Oct. 17. There were no public submissions.
