A 52-year-old Kings County man has died after he was struck by a tree.

On Monday, Nov. 19, the New Minas RCMP and the Canning Fire Department were called to a report of a sudden death on Weaver Road in Pereau.

The investigation revealed that a male was cutting down a tree on his property when it fell on him unexpectedly. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has been transported to Halifax for an autopsy. The name of the deceased is not being released upon request of the family.

Kevin Finch, with the provincial labour department, confirmed that because the man was on his own property and cutting wood for his own use, the department would not be investigating the matter as a workplace accident.
