Fire gutted a garage located on Bezanson Drive at the corner of Main Street in Berwick in the early morning hours of Nov. 27.
Members of the Berwick and District Fire Department, called to the scene just after midnight, found the building fully involved by the time they arrived. The fire was out by 3 a.m., but firefighters remained on scene till 9 a.m. to guard against hot spots and secure the property until the arrival of the fire marshall and insurance inspector.
Berwick Fire Chief Laurie Saunders said the garage housed a vehicle and other family items, all of which were destroyed in the fire. He said the blaze, which was intense enough to melt siding on the neighbour’s home, doesn’t appear to be suspicious, but the case is being investigated by the fire marshall’s office.
