An Aylesford animal shelter has been named one of 30 finalists from across the country for this year's Aviva Community Fund competition.

A Shelter for H.A.R.T. is one of four Nova Scotia finalists for the opportunity to receive up to $50,000. All finalists will receive $5,000 in funding. The finalists were chosen based on public votes via the Internet.

The 30 finalist ideas are now in the hands of a panel of impartial judges, including Etalk Anchor Tanya Kim, David Suzuki Foundation CEO Peter Robinson, Author and Journalist Bruce Sellery, Volunteer Canada President & CEO Ruth MacKenzieand Salut Bonjour Host Ève-Marie Lortie. The judges will review the ideas to decide which projects will receive funding.

Winners will be announced Jan. 29, 2013 on CTV's Canada AM.
