The Canning Medical Clinic will continue operation four days a week, despite the retirement of Dr. Mary Joseph at the end of November.
An underground swell of support that grew in the community helped maintain the clinic, according to office manager Sandi Dean.
“We also had great support from the drug store in the village,” Dean added.
The northeastern part of Kings County now has three family doctors who saw the need for physician services and committed to keeping the clinic open.
Dr. Yuri Canete, Dr. Susan Heregett and Dr. Janet MacNaughton are working with patients at the Canning Medical Clinic and taking on new patients.
Dean is taking a list of prospective new patients. She said patients from as far away as Truro and Digby have been coming to Canning to see Dr. Joseph.
Dean hopes that any new patients will live in the greater Canning area and are currently without a family physician.
“There’s a definite need,” she said. “We have a lot of seniors in the area.”
