Dec. 13

• At 6:03 p.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a report of a smell of gas inside the Big Stop restaurant and gas bar on Prospect Road. It turned out a tank was being filled outside and some gas got into the building through the ventilation system. Firefighters had to ventilate the building.

 

Dec. 14

• At 9:30 a.m., Kentville firefighters responded to a report of a smoke condition on Sesame Street in North Kentville. On investigation, nothing was found.

• At 9:40 a.m., Kentville firefighters responded to a report of a smoke condition on Upper Church Street, which turned out to be a large controlled burn.

• At 3:49 p.m., Kentville firefighters responded to a fire alarm sounding at Valley Regional Hospital. It turned out some work being done on some equipment had inadvertently set off the alarm.

 

Dec. 15

• Around 2:13 a.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a report of a fire behind Milne Court, which turned out to be a case of arson. At 2:40 a.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a fire in a dumpster behind the New Minas Court strip mall. Kings District RCMP investigated both overnight fires as suspicious in nature.

• At 10:30 a.m., Waterville and District firefighters responded to a fire in a dumpster at a residence on Highway 221 in Woodville. It turned out to be nothing serious, and was extinguished within a few minutes.

 

Dec. 16

• Around 1 a.m., Canning firefighters responded to a single-vehicle collision on Black Hole Road in Sheffield Mills. One individual was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

• At 10 a.m., Canning firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 358 at North’s Corner. One individual was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

 

Dec. 17

• At 10:17 a.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a sprinkler alarm sounding at the Kings Centre strip mall on Commercial Street. It turned out to be caused by a broken sprinkler head.

 

Dec. 18

• At 8:29 a.m., Wolfville firefighters responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 101 at the eastbound exit ramp for Exit 10. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free one of the two passengers from the vehicle.  No one was seriously injured.

 

Dec. 19

• At 10:37 a.m., Kentville firefighters responded to a report of power lines arcing and sparking on Mitchell Avenue. It turned out to be caused by heavy, wet snow on the wires, and also resulted in a temporary power outage.

• New Minas firefighters responded to a report of a tree down across Highbury Road due to the weather at 8:30 p.m.

• At 8:40 p.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a tractor trailer crossways in the road on the Highway 101 access. Firefighters helped with traffic control.

 

Dec. 20

• At 10:06 a.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a spill of diesel fuel behind the SuperStore on Commercial Street.
