A Greenwood search and rescue technician was injured Jan. 9 during an exercise over Cloud Lake.

14 Wing Greenwood spokesman John Pulchny said the 35-year-old man was injured in a parachute descent from a Hercules aircraft.

“A CH-149 Cormorant helicopter was in the area conducting local training and was able to quickly respond and transport the injured SAR Tech to Halifax, where he received medical attention,” Pulchny confirmed.

The technician was originally thought to have had only minor injuries.

However, “it was later determined that he did suffer major torso, back and rib injuries that were life threatening,” Pulchny said. “He was operated on later that night and is currently awake and in stable condition.”

He said the cause of the parachute accident is under investigation.
