Electricity was knocked out in parts of New Minas, Greenwich and Wolfville Jan. 19 after a power pole was damaged on Commercial Street near Meadow Terrace subdivision on Commercial Street.

The accident happened around 8 p.m., New Minas fire Chief James Redmond said, when a vehicle left the road, hit the pole – snapping it off at the base – and then drove away.

Firefighters responded to the scene and secured the area until Nova Scotia Power personnel arrived on scene. The pole had to be completely replaced, which took a while due to all the wires that had to be reconnected.

In order to do the repairs,  power was off for approximately three hours beginning at just after 10 p.m.
