Kelsey Leanne Pynch will stand trial in May on charges of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of trafficking a substance believed to be methadone.   Pynch appeared in Kentville Provincial Court Jan. 21.

Defence lawyer Don Fraser waived reading of the charges, elected trial by provincial court judge and entered not guilty pleas on his client's behalf.

A pre-trial conference has been set for Feb. 6 at 3:30 p.m. and the trial will begin May 1 and 2. Crown Robert Morrison said the trial is expected to take three or four days. Further dates will be discussed at the pre-trial. Bill Ferguson is scheduled to serve as the Crown for the trial.

Pynch, 21, Nicholsville, is charged in connection with the death of Katanna MacDonald.

MacDonald, 20, died June 21, 2012 after allegedly consuming methadone. The drug trafficking charges stem from incidents alleged to have occurred in Middleton June 16 and Aylesford June 18, 2012.

Pynch is charged also with shoplifting and failing to attend court. She is being represented on these matters by public defender Ken Greer. These matters have been adjourned to Feb. 4 for election and plea. The shoplifting incident is alleged to have occurred June 22, 2012 and Pynch allegedly failed to attend court as directed Oct. 1, 2012.

if you are a drug addict is it not the same as an alcholic. which in my understanding is an illness. for someone to sell drugs to a person, is it not contributing to that illness. we need to get the drug dealers off the streets and the way to do that is to make them understand if they sell drugs they are going to be made accountable and give then jail time. not a slap on the wrist. this should be made into manslaughter charges to get that point accross.

No it isn't Katanna's fault or any drug user it someone is stupid enough to give a drug to someone that they know is a drug user than they should be in jail. And no i'm not just saying this cause Katanna was a very good friend of mine.
