Staff at the County of Kings finance department has once again been recognized for their outstanding work presenting the budget.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada announced recently that the municipality has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2013.
Finance manager Kim Durling said the county was one of only 1,300 organizations across North America given the honour. She is happy to accept the award on behalf of everyone who worked on the budget.
“The entire team helped with the creation of the budget and the budget book so I credit them with a job well done,” Durling said. “We are further improving our process this year with a five-year strategic plan. That should only help to improve our scores on reflecting the budget book as a policy document.”
The award is part of the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. Nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation had to be met in order to receive the award. The guidelines assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.
This is the third time the municipality has received the award. They previously won for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 budget years. The 2013-2014 budget document can be found online at www.county.kings.ns.ca. For more information on the Government Finance Officers Association, visit www.gfoa.org.
