One young man is dead and several people are in hospital after an early morning crash on Black River Road. RCMP responded to the scene of a two-car head-on collision at 3:15 a.m. Aug. 22 in Newtonville, Kings County.
A 23-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. Three males and one female between the ages of 17 and 23 were transported to the Valley Regional Hospital in critical condition. One of the four was transported by LifeFlight to the QEII in Halifax Saturday morning, said Paul Maynard from Emergency Health Services.
A 16-year-old male was taken from the scene to the Hants Community Hospital in serious condition and later transported by ground ambulance to the QEII.
“We sent four ambulances with eight paramedics, which is fairly significant,”
Maynard added. “Entrapment in both vehicles requiring use of the Jaws of Life.”
Wolfville, Greenwich and Hantsport fire departments also attended the scene.
RCMP are investigating the possibility alcohol was involved in the crash.
A second crash on Victoria Road, Aylesford, claimed the life of an adult male later that morning. RCMP responded to the single-vehicle crash at 9:30 a.m. The northbound vehicle left the road, hit a culvert and flipped onto its roof, according to a police statement.
“Paramedics responded and pronounced an adult male deceased on scene,” Maynard said. “He was the only occupant.”
Kings RCMP and Annapolis Valley Traffic Services are investigating the accident.
