Kentville Police and Kings District RCMP arrested Albert Rex Baird on New Minas’ Commercial Street June 20. The 43-year-old South Alton resident has been charged with armed robbery for his part in the April 23 robbery of Kentville’s Clinic Pharmacy and will face an additional armed robbery charge for his role in the robbery Mader’s Pharmacy, Coldbrook, July 18, 2010. Baird will also face a charge of breach of probation.
Baird was driving west in a white Pontiac Montana minivan around 1:30 p.m. when he was pulled over by two unmarked police cars outside of the New Minas fire station, just around the corner from the Kings District RCMP headquarters.
He was arrested without incident, handcuffed, then taken away from the scene in an RCMP cruiser.
Baird has been remanded into custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth and will appear in Kentville Provincial Court on June 22 for a show cause hearing.
Twenty-eight-year-old Kristin Dawn Dowling of Upper Pereau is already three years in custody for her role in the April 23 Pharmacy robbery. She was sentenced May 16 on charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking, and committing an offense while wearing a mask. Colin Timothy Shaw, 29, of Upper Dyke has also been charged in the incident. In the course of the investigation following the robbery, Kentville Police pegged the value of the large quantity of prescription pills stolen during the robbery at over $29,000.
