Police charge teenager with passing counterfeit cash
RCMP arrested a 19-year-old Greenwich man in New Minas on Dec. 10 after an investigation into counterfeit $50 bills. Multiple bills were used on Nov. 16 and 17 at two different New Minas businesses.
The fake $50 bills were passed a third time in Wolfville. The man will appear in court on Feb. 20 on three charges of uttering counterfeit money.
Vandalism under investigation
Three incidents of vandalism took place in Wolfville during the weekend.
Early on Dec. 10 a window was broken at Wolfville School when a piece of metal was thrown at it.
On Dec. 11 some windows were broken at MP Scott Brison’s office off Harbourside Drive while a hammer was used to break windows at the Wolfville Memorial Library.
Be leery of calls asking for personal information
A South Berwick resident lost $1,000 last week when a phone fraudster pretending to be a bank employee was given access to online accounts.
"Never, ever give out information or ID without checking people out," community policing officer Const. Blair MacMurtery warned.
Shelburne RCMP has received two similar reports in recent weeks. In one case a resident received a call from someone claiming to be a computer consultant, who required remote access to the resident's computer because it was attacked by a virus.
The RCMP reminds the public not to give out any personal information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to the local police agency or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Phonebusters at 1-888-495-8501 or www.phonebusters.com
