Fire Lines

Dec. 31

• At 10:25 a.m., Kentville firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Mee Road in North Kentville. It turned out to be a furnace issue, and what the person who called in the alarm thought was smoke turned out to be steam.

• Kingston & District firefighters responded to a chimney fire on Crystal Drive in Greenwood at 8:43 p.m.

 

Jan. 1

• At 5:15 a.m., Greenwich firefighters responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 101 at Exit 11. A car, the only vehicle involved, had struck a guardrail. There were no serious injuries, though one person was transported to hospital for observation.

• At 9 a.m., Greenwich firefighters responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision with a utility pole on Ridge Road. The vehicle sustained significant damage, and while there were no serious injuries, According to fire chief Dave Miller, “it could easily have been a lot worse.”

• Canning & District firefighters responded to a residential fire alarm sounding on Pereaux Road in Habitant at 9:30 a.m. It turned out to be an accidental activation.

 

Jan. 2

• Just after 5:30 p.m., Kentville firefighters responded to a report of a blown transformer on Kings Ride at Camp Aldershot. A bald eagle had struck power lines, creating some power issues.

• At 6:28 p.m., Aylesford and District firefighters responded to a report of an all-terrain vehicle on fire in Morristown. There were no injuries as a result, but the vehicle sustained damage.

 

Jan. 3

• Canning & District firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the basement of a residence on Black Hole Road in Sheffield Mills at 12:46 p.m.  It turned out to be an electrical fire that was contained to the area around the electrical panel. Mutual aid was dispatched from Kentville, Greenwich and Port Williams as a precaution, but was stood down.

 

Jan. 4

• Just before 1 p.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on Commercial Street in New Minas. There were no serious injuries, although both vehicles suffered damage.

• At 3:37 p.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a smoke condition in an apartment on Aalders Avenue. Firefighters had to ventilate the apartment.

• Kentville firefighters responded to investigate a smell of propane at the Kentville Centennial Arena at 6 p.m. It turned out to be an equipment issue.

• Kingston & District and Aylesford & District firefighters both responded in mutual aid to Middleton to the scene of a house fire on Highway 1 in Wilmot at 7:30 p.m. Berwick & District firefighters responded to stand in at the Kingston station.

 

Jan. 5

• Kingston & District firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision between a car and an Emera bucket truck on Central Avenue at Planes View Drive in Greenwood at 2 p.m. Everyone involved in the collision was transported to hospital with injuries, at least some of which were considered serious. Central Avenue remained closed for several hours while a traffic reconstruction analyst with the Department of Transportation examined the scene.

• At 7:42 p.m., Kingston & District firefighters responded to a report of power lines arcing on Main Street in Kingston.

 

Jan. 6

• Kentville firefighters responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Middle Dyke Road at 9:40 a.m. There were no injuries as a result.

• At 2:39 p.m., New Minas firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on

Commercial Street. There were no serious injuries, although both vehicles sustained damage.

• At 10 p.m., Wolfville firefighters responded to a chimney fire in Wallbrook. It wasn’t serious.

 

Jan. 7

• Kentville firefighters responded to a chimney fire on Highway 221 in Lakeville at 9:48 a.m.
