Some Kings County councillors are concerned with duplication, but the committee of the whole is recommending approval of $20,000 toward the third year of funding for the Berwick economic development coordinator position.

The funding would be for the 2012-2013 fiscal year with the money coming from the county’s economic development budget. There is $35,000 left for 2012-2013.

The current coordinator, Alexis Grant, made a presentation about the position and made the funding request to county council at the Nov. 27 committee of the whole session. She gave an overview of many projects successfully completed or in the works.

“Overall, this has been a very successful partnership with the county and other partners,” Grant said.

Coun. Wayne Atwater said he is concerned with duplication, considering the county is hiring its own economic development officer.

“I love the Town of Berwick, but I love the county a little more,” Atwater said.

The Berwick coordinator works with the Berwick and District Economic Development Advisory Committee to implement a strategic plan for economic development in Berwick and surrounding area.
