Police are warning drivers to drive for the road conditions after a youth, who was using a crosswalk in New Minas, was hit by the mirror of a vehicle about 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 8.
The 16-year-old boy had activated the yellow lights, but the driver could not stop in time. The pedestrian received bruising.
“Slow down,” says Const. Blair MacMurtery. “You can’t stop on a dime in the rain and snow. Drivers are not driving for the conditions.”
MacMurtery went on to note, “ pedestrians have a right to use crosswalks. That’s why they’re there.”
He added that many rear end collisions are due to driver inattention to road conditions.
“We need to be vigilant.”
