Kaily Schofield and Chantel Graves led the Kentville Marlins swim team at a July 24 meet in Lunenburg.

Schofield joined the Marlins this summer after last swimming competitively two years ago for the Wolfville Tritons. She made her first appearance of the year a successful one, placing third in all three of her races at the meet: 50-metre butterfly, 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre freestyle.

Graves, who has been swimming for the Marlins for the last couple of summers, also had a successful meet. Her day was capped by a fifth-place finish in the 50-metre breaststroke. She also swam to a tenth-place finish in the 50-metre butterfly and  19th in the 100-metre freestyle.

Seven of the less experienced Marlins – Fran and Rowan Domingo, Sarah Zaw, Lucas and Adam Dorrance, Anna Jamieson and Alicia Edens – also competed at the meet.

Among the highlights was Adam Dorrance’s 14th place finish in the 50-metre breaststroke. Adam and his brother Lucas both took “large amounts of time” off their previous personal bests.

According to head coach Shauna Manning, “all the (Kentville) swimmers did an amazing job,” with numerous new personal best performances.

Manning made special mention of first year swimmer Sarah Zaw, who is progressing very well. “She is a hard worker and has shown a lot of improvement since she has started.”
