Wolfville Tritons’ Swim Club marked members’ effort and successes with a banquet and awards ceremony June 19.
Forty-five club records were broken- and rebroken- by 18 team members during the season and the year isn’t over yet: qualifying swimmers are still in the pool training for East Coast Long Course championships in Halifax July 7 to 10 and Canadian Age Group Championships in Montreal.
Head Coach Chris Stone praised the team, athletes and parent volunteers who keep the club going and thanked parents on hand “for raising such wonderful children.”
Stone had the audience in tears with a lovely description of the dedication and sportsmanship shown by 15-year-old Triton of the Year Jeremy Ingham. “There are different types of leadership,” Stone said about Ingham. “There is leading by example and leading from the back.”
Stone said young man’s work ethic as he trained to meet his personal goal for the season- making qualifying times for the East Coast competition, which he did in June- not only brought Ingham success, but also raised the calibre of his entire training squad.
In honour of Ingham’s example, the Triton of the Year trophy will be known from hereon as the Ingham Award.
Awards were also handed out to swimmers’ representatives Kristen Macpherson and Sara Lynch; Dedication to Swimming for graduating swimmer Lynch; Swimmer of the Year (seniors) Rebecca MacPherson and Hayden Adams; Swimmer of the Year (juniors) Ava Vial and Mac Muirhead; Most Improved Swimmer (senior) Kassandra Parsons and Adam Deutsch; Most Improved Swimmer (junior) Cordelia Hoegg-Phelps and Matthew Bent; Coaches’ Merit Medal (White Training Group) Kaisa Thorsen and Jack Rippeyoung; Coaches’ Merit Medal (Blue Training Group) Andrew Archibald and Arianna Young; Coaches’ Merit Medal (Black Training Group) Emma Murphy and Will MacDonald; Coaches’ Merit Medal (Junior Training Group) Conor Adams; Coaches’ Merit Medal (Senior Training Group) Jessica Bent.
