Six Valley-based teams gathered February 26 for the Kings-Hants Basketball League’s gold division tournament.
Kings Minor Basketball Association (KMBA) was joined by mini-boys’ entries from Kentville, Greenwood, Wolfville, Port Williams and West Hants at the event; held at Berwick school.
In the first game, the KMBA Gators bested Kentville 48-14, securing a spot in semi-final action against Acadia Minor basketball.
In game two, a match-up between the Greenwood team and the West Hants Shooting Stars saw West Hants win 46-38 and progress to the second semi- final game against Port Williams.
Greenwood played Kentville in the third game, with Greenwood winning 46-25. High scorers for Greenwood were Robert MacCormack and Angus MacKinnon and, on the Kentville team, Jonah Vidito, Patrick Wadden, Marcelle Boland, Donovan Morgan, Issac Payne, Ethan Anderson, Greg Kierstead, Zach Manniman and Issac Payne racked up points in the team’s two games.
In semi final 1, a combined 58 point total by Port Williams players Keevan Veinot, Jordan Myles, Isaac MacLaren, Jake Gordon, Jacob Shaffelburg, Ian McLean and Hayden Warzee; propelled the team to a win over KMBA - and a spot in the final. KMBA players Kyle Jordan, Coleton Oickle, Connor Ross, Daniel Bell, Joseph Ciarrocco, Peter Mackey and Chesley Winter scored a total of 48 points.
In the second semi-final, Port Williams bested the West Hants Shooting Stars 63-35. Keevan Veinot and Jordan Myles posted double digit points in the game, and West Hants players Keenan MacCall, Dylan Cochrane, Austin Leighton, Zack Woodman and Austin Ledson contributed to the point total for their team.
KMBA met West Hants in the consolation final, with KMBA winning 58-55.
Port Williams remained unbeaten, beating Acadia Minor 54-50 in the final. Top scorers for Port Williams were Keevan Veinot with 31 points and Isaac MacLaren with 15. Acadia Minor’s Matthew Ingham, Bradley Stewart and Ben Anderson scored at total of 37 points with Ryan Clair, Caleb Archibald, Donovan Cassidy, Jordan Mercier, Riley Sweet and Owen Lee contributing the remainder.
