The Acadia women's hockey team is off to another great start again this season with an 8-0-1 record.

The team is well balanced, with strong goaltending and a good mixture of first-, second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-year students. The team has a busy schedule playing in two leagues, the Nova Scota Women’s Hockey League (A Division) and the Maritime Intercollegiate Women's Hockey League.

The provincial league gives female hockey players wanting to continue to play competitive hockey a place to play. There are a few ex-varsity players playing in this league. Acadia's record in this league is 5-0.

The intercollegiate league is very competitive and is comprised of teams from Cape Breton University, University of New Brunswick, Holland College, University of Sainte Anne's, Acadia and Bishops University.

On Nov. 26 to 27 the Acadia Axewomen travelled to the University Of Sainte Anne's to play in the first of five tournaments in the Maritime Intercollegiate Women's Hockey League. The Axewomen defeated Cape Breton University, Bishops University, Holland College and tied University of New Brunswick. Acadia finished the tournament with a 3-0-1 record.

Acadia and UNB are currently tied for first place.

The Axewomen’s next home game in the Nova Scotia league will be Jan. 29, 2012 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and their next tournament in the intercollegiate league is scheduled to take place Jan. 21 to 22 in PEI, hosted by Holland College. Acadia will be hosting its own tournament the weekend of March 30-31.
