The Kings Mutual major bantam Wildcats were fit to be tied in their Jan. 7 and 8 weekend series with the Nova Junior X-Men.

The Wildcats came back to earn a 4-4 tie in the Sunday afternoon game after the teams battled to a 1-1 draw the previous evening.

The results left Kings Mutual with a record of 9-6-6, good for 24 points and sixth in the 12-team league.

Saturday’s game in Berwick was scoreless until William Johnston’s goal, assisted by Austin Gough and Brett Tidman, 1:44 into the third period gave the Wildcats the first advantage of the game.

That lead held up until Colby Tower tied the score with just 54 seconds remaining.

Both the Wildcats’ Colin Beckwith and Nova’s Blade Mann-Dixon were solid in goal.

After scoring just one goal apiece Saturday, the Wildcats and X-men combined for eight goals, five of them in the first period, when the teams met again the following afternoon.

MaKail Parker opened the scoring for Kings Mutual at 5:44 of the first period, but Randon MacKinnon’s first of four goals on the afternoon a little over a minute later got the X-Men on the board.

Johnston scored at 8:19 and Cody Burghardt at 10:33 to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.

MacKinnon scored three straight goals to give his team a 4-3 lead, which held up until Michael Dill tallied a power-play goal with 6:47 left in the third period to tie the score.
