UPEI downs Acadia 6-1

The UPEI Panthers blew open a close game with a four-goal second period en route to a 6-1 victory over Acadia Saturday night.

The loss was the Axemen’s fourth straight and dropped them to fifth in the conference standings.

Matt Carter scored a pair of goals for the winners while singles went to Jordan Knox, Mike MacIsaac, Jared Gomes and Chris Dasousa.

Michael Ward’s unassisted goal in the third period accounted for the only Axemen tally.

Evan Mosher was tagged with the loss, giving up four goals before being replaced midway through the game by Peter DiSalvo.

The Panthers held a 1-0 lead after the first and a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Acadia (15-9-2) has two regular season game remaining. They host Dalhousie Friday before travelling to Halifax Saturday to play Saint Mary’s. Both games are 7 p.m. starts.
