The Valley Maple Leafs are tied for first place in the Fred Fox Division of the Nova Scotia Junior B Hockey League following a 6-2 win over the Antigonish Farmers Mutual Junior Bulldogs Nov. 2 in Antigonish.
The Maple Leafs improved their record to six wins, one loss, two shootout losses and two overtime losses, good for 16 points in 11 games and a first-place tie with the Sackville Blazers in their division.
Valley fell behind 1-0 after one period Saturday at the Antigonish Arena, but scored all three goals in the second period and three of the four scored in the third to wrap up a convincing victory, outshooting Antigonish 37-19.
Roland Provencal scored the Leafs’ first goal, and Colin Gillis and Mark Swain added to the lead before the second period was out.
After the Bulldogs’ Tim MacDougall narrowed the lead to 3-2 early in the third, Nicholas MacKenzie, Craig Anderson and Swain with his second of the game rounded out the scoring for the Maple Leafs.
Provencal, one of a number of players picked up by the Leafs since the start of the season, finished with a goal and two assists.
Gillis and MacKenzie each had a goal and an assist, and Nathan Little and Luke Short had two assists each.
Valley is next in action Nov. 10 when the Maple Leafs take on the Bay Ducks in a 7:30 start at the Kentville Centennial Arena.
