The Kings Mutual Major Bantam Wildcats continue to hold their own in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

Following play Nov. 4, Kings Mutual, with only a handful of players having returned from last season, stood seventh in the 12-team league with a record of four wins, five losses and three ties in 12 games.

One of the wins and one of the losses came on the Nov. 3-4 weekend. Kings Mutual defeated the Dartmouth Whalers 9-2 Nov. 3 in Berwick, then dropped a 5-3 decision to Bubba Rays Gulls Nov. 4.

Against Dartmouth, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead after one period, then extended their advantage to 6-0 with five second-period goals. Kings Mutual then had three of five goals in the third period to round out the scoring.

Drake Batherson led the offense with three goals, Cole Rafuse and Dylan Riley each added two goals and Josh Foster and Sam Roberts had one goal apiece. Cody Burghardt and Alex Lewis each had two assists.

The Wildcats had a 32-17 edge in shots on goal, with Kate Spooner turning aside 15 of the 17 shots she faced.

The following day, the Bubba Rays led 2-0 after one period and 4-1 after two en route to their 5-3 win. Kings Mutual scored two of three third period goals, but was still behind by two at the final buzzer.

Cole Rafuse, Patrick Howatt and Dylan Taylor had the Wildcats’ goals, with Taylor’s goal coming on a power play.

Through 12 games, Kings Mutual had scored 37 goals and allowed 46. Batherson led the teams in goals with nine, and Gregor MacLeod (3-12-15) led in both assists and points.
