After a slow start to the season that saw them lose four of their first six games, the Kings Mutual Major Bantam Wildcats have clawed their way back to a .500 record.
The Wildcats picked up three of a possible four points on the Nov. 17-18 weekend, edging Newbridge Senators 3-2 Nov. 17, then tying Dartmouth 1-1 Nov. 18.
In its past eight games, including Nov. 18, Kings Mutual had three wins, one loss and four ties, and had moved into sole possession of sixth place in the 12-team league.
On Nov. 17, Austin Gough’s fourth goal of the season with 7:53 remaining in the third period held up as the game-winner.
Cole Rafuse and Josh MacMillan had the other Wildcats goals, while Matthew Berrigan had both goals for Newbridge, which led 1-0 after one period. Gregor MacLeod assisted on all three Kings Mutual goals.
On Nov. 18, again at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick, Devon Blackmore-MacDonald’s power play goal with 12:34 remaining in the third period tied the score at one after Dylan Riley had given the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the second period.
MacLeod assisted on Riley’s goal, his fourth assist of the weekend.
