First of three straight games between teams

The Summit Hyundai Valley midget Wildcats increased their lead atop the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League with a 4-3 shootout win over the South Shore Mustangs Dec. 1 in Bridgewater.
Valley won the shootout after the two teams had completed regulation time and overtime tied 3-3.
Nicholas Blanchard had a pair of first period goals, his league-leading 26th and 27th of the season, to stake the Wildcats to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Alex Nauss replied with the only goal of the second period, his first of two on the night, to narrow the gap to 2-1.
Tyler McDowell made it 3-1 Valley 2:53 into the third period, but the Mustangs struck back, tying the score before the end of theperiod on goals by Nauss and Christian Tufts.
John Deacon had a pair of assists for the Wildcats, who outshot their hosts 46-30.
The two points improved Valley’s league-leading record to 22 wins, two losses, one shootout loss and one overtime loss for 46 points, 16better than their nearest competition, the second-place Halifax Titans, who had played eight fewer games.
The game was the first of three straight meetings between the same two teams. The Wildcats and Mustangs meet Friday, Nov. 7 in Berwick and again Saturday, Nov. 8 back in Bridgewater.
