Despite a furious effort in the final few minutes, the Axemen couldn’t match the Aigles Bleus Friday night, losing 3-2 on home ice.

Moncton opened the scoring at 5:15 of the first period with a goal from Guillaume Parenteau, assisted by Eric Faille and Kevin Charland.

Acadia’s Mike Cazzola, assisted by Andrew Clark and Christopher Owens, tied it up with a power play goal at 16:23.

The game stayed tied until Moncton scored two goals in less than a minute in the third period: at 7:26 from Marc Andre Cote, assisted by Pier-Antoine Dion and Alex Emond, and 8:12 from Guillaume Parenteau, assisted by Kevin Charland.

The Axemen were lifted by a late, unassisted goal from Leo Jenner with two minutes left to play, but couldn’t manage to tie it up.

Shots on goal were 47-37 in Acadia’s favour.

Acadia’s men’s hockey squad gets another chance Saturday night when they host the St. Thomas Tommies at 7 p.m.
