A.J. Simmonds has committed to attend Acadia and play basketball for the Axemen beginning this fall.
Simmonds plays for the Auburn Drive High School Eagles, which he helped lead to a high school provincial title last year. Current Axemen Shaquille Smith was also a member of that team.
So far this season, Simmonds is averaging 18 points and eight assists per game for the Eagles.
Simmonds played for the silver-medal winning Nova Scotia U-17 provincial team under head coach Nick Jordan, an Acadia assistant coach, and has four years of provincial team experience in all.
“We’re excited to have A.J. join us,” Axemen coach Stephen Baur said. “We had the opportunity to see him all summer, and were blown away by his character, work ethic and leadership.
“His play spoke for itself at Auburn the last two years and in winning a silver medal for Nova Scotia, but seeing the rest of the picture with A.J. let us know how special he is.”
