Gators hoop squad off to positive start

After going undefeated in their own Tip-Off tournament, the Central Kings boys’ basketball team scored wins in its first two league games, topping NKEC 74-40 on Nov. 20 in Canning and Avon View 77-47 in Windsor.

The Gators got off to a slow start against NKEC, according to head coach Rod Sabean, but with veterans Nigel Simmons, Trent Oickle and Kurt Getson leading the way, took control of the game early in the third quarter.

Simmons ended up with 26 points and 15 rebounds, Oickle added 17 points and nine rebounds and Getson chipped in 15 points. Corey Cadeau, with six points and three steals, “brought energy to the court.”

At Avon View, the Gators started strong and everyone on the roster contributed to a strong win. Simmons led the way with 32 points and 11 rebounds, Oickle had 27 points and Dylan Poole contributed six rebounds and seven assists at point guard.

On Nov. 30 – Dec. 1, Central Kings is scheduled to compete in a tournament at Kings-Edgehill in Windsor, where they were scheduled to play West Kings and Antigonish East.
