CEC sweeps NSSAF D-1 volleyball banners

One gold, two silver for Kings County teams

Cobequid Education Centre from Truro swept the NSSAF Division 1 volleyball banners at provincials, held Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at Horton.

CEC defeating the host Griffins two sets to one in the championship final by scores of 27-25, 13-25, 15-12.

Horton advanced to the final with a 2-0 win over Sackville by scores of 25-17, 25-19. CEC qualified for the final with a 25-10, 25-16 victory over Park View.

In the round robin portion of the six-team tournament, the Griffins defeated Park View 25-17, 23-15 and Halifax West 25-9, 25-13.

The Horton boys’ silver medal was one of three medals won by Kings County teams at the various NSSAF volleyball provincials.

At the D-2 boys’ provincials, a three-team event hosted by West Kings, the host Wolverines claimed gold, sweeping the final against Millwood 25-9, 25-21.

In the round robin, West Kings topped the Horton D-2 team 25-14, 25-12, Millwood defeated Horton 25-23, 25-20 and West Kings swept Millwood 25-3, 25-10.

At the D-2 girls’ provincials, an eight-team tournament hosted by CEC in Truro, Bridgewater captured the provincial banner, defeating West Kings 18-25, 25-23, 15-9 in the final.

West Kings, the only Valley team in the tournament, went 2-1 in the round robin, topping Citadel 25-14, 25-12 and Ecole Par en Bas 25-16, 25-11 before being swept by Bridgewater 25-18, 27-25.

Advancing to the playoff round as the #2 team in their pool, West Kings met CEC in the semifinals and scored a 25-21, 25-20 straight-sets victory.
