Local Lions gathered with about 40 local youth 4H members at the Coldbrook and District Lions hall April 28 for a guide dog information session.
The foundation, owned by the Lions of Canada, is a charitable organization created by Lions clubs across Canada to provide service to Canadians physically disabled in the areas of mobility, safety and independence. This year marks “25 Years of Independence” for the foundation. It has provided specially-trained dog guides to more than 1,200 men, women and children between the ages of eight and 84.
The two-hour presentation provided information on the project, and Lion Brenda Anderson did some hands-on demonstrations and took questions from the 4H members.
Anderson focused on obedience training in her presentation, a subject that is part of the 4H mandate.
The 4-H host in Coldbrook was Tracy Buchanan, and Lions members Jan Mattie from Sackville, Barb Lyle of Kingston, Mark Durnford from Coldbrook and zone chairman Tom Leblanc from Kentville also attended the session; organized by past council chairman Bob Lyle of the Kingston Lions.
