It was a successful weekend for Kings County teams at the annual Valley Kickoff soccer tournament June 18 through 20, as they earned four gold medals and captured four silver medals.
A total of 89 teams, from as far away as HRM, in 11 age and skill divisions, took part in the tournament, the traditional start of the summer soccer season in the Valley District.
In the U-12 A boys’ final, Dunbrack blanked Bedford 2-0. In the U-12 B boys’ final, East Kings topped Dartmouth United 3-1, and in the U-12 B girls’ final, Upper County shut out Sackville 4-0.
In U-14 B boys’, Kings West-Clark won gold with a 3-1 win over Bedford. In U-14 B girls’, West Hants-Lake edged Kings West-Hachey 2-1 in the final.
In U-16 A boys’, East Hants won gold with a 4-0 shutout of Dartmouth United. In U-16 B boys’, West Hants edged Greenwood 2-1. In U-16 girls’, Upper County took gold by edging Somerset 2-1.
In the U-18 division, East Kings-Dekoe won gold in the boys’ division with a 4-1 win over Sackville. In the U-18 girls’ final, East Hants edged Dartmouth United 2-1. Kings West blanked Somerset 3-0 in the senior women’s final.
