The Valley U-18 girls’ Tier 1 soccer team improved to a perfect 8-0 on the season with a 6-0 blanking of Highland July 24 in New Minas.
Shelby Lewis and Julia Levernois each had a pair of goals for Valley, while Alana Fairfax and Carly Goodine added singles. The U-18 girls had scored 19 goals and allowed just one in their eight regular season games.
While their record isn’t perfect, the Valley U-16 boys improved to 6-0-3, remaining unbeaten on the season and in first place in their division, with a 3-0 shutout of Suburban in their most recent game July 17.
Corey Cadeau, Calum MacRae and Matt Lahey scored the Valley goals, while Catlin Gould earned his third shutout of the season.
In other action on the July 24-25 weekend, the Valley U-14 D boys topped Halifax County 4-2 on July 25. William Warren had three goals and Jacob Shaffelburg added the other goal. The U-14 D boys improved to 3-7-2 with the victory, good for fifth place in their division.
The Valley senior women improved to 3-6-1 with a 3-0 win over Highland on July 25. Marissa Walter and Alana Fairfax scored Valley goals, while the third score was an ‘own goal’. Jillian Cochrane had the shutout.
The U-14 D girls played to a 1-1 draw with Dartmouth United July 25, with Gisele Rudderman scoring the Valley goal, after dropping a 4-1 decision to Highland July 24. Haley Macdonald had the Valley goal in that game.
Other Valley teams were not as fortunate in their weekend action. The U-18 boys lost twice, 4-0 to Halifax City July 24 and 4-1 to South Shore July 25 to fall to 0-7-3. U-16 call-up Calum MacRae had the lone Valley goal.
The Valley Kings Arms senior men’s team dropped a close 1-0 decision to Cape Breton in men’s premiership action on July 24, falling to 3-7-1 on the season with the loss.
