Action has resumed for Valley teams in the Nova Scotia Soccer League after the Christmas break with a couple of the Valley squads continuing to hold their own in NSSL Tier 1 competition.

Following play on the Jan. 5-6 weekend, the Valley U-18 girls were second in their division with a 6-1-1 record for 19 points, two behind first-place Halifax City.

In their most recent game Jan. 5 in Kentville, the U-18 girls came out ahead in a high-scoring 12-6 contest against South Shore. Even more unusual, all 18 goals scored in the game came in the first half.

Jessica Shaffelburg scored four of the Valley goals, Emily Nickerson and Gillianne Gates three each and Serena Dolan had two.

The Valley U-14A boys were also in second place in their division with a 6-1 record for 18 points, second to only Halifax County with 27. The U-14A boys did not see action on the Jan. 5-6 weekend.

Other Valley teams have had mixed results so far this indoor season. The U-16 girls were fourth in a strong division with a 5-2 record. In their most recent action Jan. 5, Valley topped Dartmouth 5-1, with MacKenzie Pardy scoring three goals and Erin Cecchetto two.

The Valley Senior A women also stood fourth with a 2-2-1 record and had at least two games in hand over everyone else in their division. The senior women also had the Jan. 5-6 weekend off.

The U-18 boys were fifth in their division with a 2-3-1 record. In Jan. 6 action, the U-18 boys dropped a 4-3 decision to Dunbrack, with Adam McCluskey (two) and Tjeerd Schep scoring the Valley goals.

The U-14B boys and U-14A girls were also fifth in their respective divisions, the U-14B boys with a 2-5 record and the U-14A girls with a 2-5-1 record.

In their most recent action, the U-14A girls lost 4-1 to Halifax City Dec. 29 in Kentville, with Victoria Enserink scoring the lone Valley goal. Both the U-14A girls and U-14B boys had the Jan. 5-6 weekend off.

The Valley Kings Arms Senior Men’s team was sixth in their division with a 2-3 record. The senior men last played Jan. 5 and outscored Halifax City 6-4.

Devin Tetlow and U-18 call-up Liam Dutton had two goals each, and Calum MacRae and Cochrane Noseworthy-Smith one goal apiece.

The Valley U-16 boys were seventh in their division with a 3-6 record, and fell short in their most recent game, a wild 11-8 loss Jan. 6 against Halifax City.

Pascal Doucette scored three times for Valley in a losing effort, Nic Kane twice and Cody Ettinger, Noah MacRae and Hugue-Ernst Marceus had one goal each.
