SeaPort Dental sets up shop in Port Williams

PORT WILLIAMS - Dr. Alison Nette wants patients to feel right at home at the new SeaPort Dental clinic in Port Williams.

“We’re going to take the time to get to know patients and it’s really important to us that patients are well-informed about their oral health,” said Nette, who grew up in Wolfville.

“No question is a stupid question.”

Nette spent four and a half years practicing in Whitehorse, Yukon before moving back home in 2016. She’s worked as an associate at some local practices since returning to Kings County, and plans to continue working shifts at the Fundy Dental Centre’s emergency walk-in clinic in Coldbrook while growing her own business.

Nette’s love of dentistry stems from an admiration of her father’s work. She proudly calls her father, a dentist who ran a clinic in Wolfville for more than 35 years, her mentor.

As she builds her client base at SeaPort Dental, Nette stresses that new patients of all ages are welcome.

“We’re really family focused,” she said.

“We love kids and we’re looking to build relationships with people and go through life with people, providing oral health care for them.”

She chose to set up shop in Port Williams after noting that there was a need in the area.

“It made sense business wise, but it’s also a beautiful spot,” she said, adding that she’s been able to hire three employees at the clinic so far.

Nette believes it’s important to offer patients a wide range of in-house service options under one roof: cleaning, checkups, fillings, emergency services, root canals, denture services, implants, etc.

“People appreciate not having to go to multiple locations and people develop a relationship with their dentist, just like they do their doctor,” she said.

“We want to try to provide as many services as we can right here.”

It’s important to understand that oral health is directly connected to overall health, Nette stressed.

“If you’re doing things regularly, like your checkups and your cleaning, it’s so much easier to prevent problems that could arise if you go several years without.”

At the end of the day, Nette strives to offer gentle dental care that puts patients at ease.

“I love getting to know a patient over the years and making a difference in their life,” she said.

“I like being able to have the time to spend with people.”
