The Fredericton-based Plaza Retail REIT recently issued a tender for the construction of a standalone building in a parking lot adjacent to the Shoppers Drug Mart in Greenwood.
Jamie Petrie, chief operating officer of Plaza Retail REIT, confirmed that the tenant is going to operate a food-related business.
“It is a national tenant. It is food related and we are constructing now. We issued a tender for over a half a million dollars to build a separate building with a drive-thru,” said Petrie, who is unable to disclose the name of the incoming business at this time.
Plaza, the company that owns the Shoppers Drug Mart building, has long intended to add another standalone building to the property, Petrie said.
“Nova Scotia has been one of our core markets. We have, I’m going to guess, over 40 different retail sites in Nova Scotia,” said Petrie, who noted that Plaza has a lot of properties in the New Minas area.
“Greenwood has been a great market for us. It’s been a wonderful Shoppers Drug Mart experience.”
Construction of the new food establishment is scheduled to conclude in June 2017. From there, Petrie said the tenant could move in and put some finishing touches on the space.
