The event is organized by the Community Association of People for REAL Enterprise or CAPRE, which sponsors six individuals who operate their own businesses. Included are: Mr. B’s Tees, Leah’s Clean and Green and Crystal’s Pantry.
There will be four keynote speakers, guided business discussions, networking and live music by the Canning area band, Ida Red and Friends at Canning Lions Club.
Canning consultant Cari Patterson will speak about diversity, respect and vibrant communities at 4 p.m., then Wes Booth from Wolfville will give a talk about social media and community building.
At 4:30 p.m., Andy Horsnell will examine the topic of business for the common good. The keynote speaker is Kings County native, Kevin Penny, who will address the challenge of REAL enterprise.
In 1991, at the age of 15, Penny was in a bicycle accident and suffered a spinal cord injury leading to paralysis from the chest down. He graduated from Horton High School in 1995 and continued his studies at St. Mary’s University. Today he is a coordinator of disability services with the provincial education department.
He is also the president of Sail Able Association of Nova Scotia and in 2014 started his own wheelchair van rental business in Halifax.
The story of CAPRE, which began in 1999, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and Penny will speak at 7 p.m. with music to follow.
The doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and the fair will run until 9 p.m.
