Tapping into Electric City: a unique history and unique opportunity
NEW FRANCE, NS – An untapped and unknown piece of Nova Scotia’s history lies in behind the Weymouth area and two men are looking to get the word out.
Nova Scotia musical theatre favourites, Amy Stewart Reitsma and Ian Gilmore, star in the upcoming Valley Summer Theatre musical ‘I Do, I Do!.’
WOLFVILLE, NS – This week Valley Summer Theatre is preparing for the opening of its ninth season of popular live theatre in Wolfville.
Starting the summer season on a nostalgic note is I Do! I Do!, which is a musical about marriage. It is based on the Tony Award-winning play ‘The Fourposter’ by Jan de Hartog.
I Do! I Do! is directed by Pamela Halstead with music direction by Chuck Homewood and additional accompaniment by Lisa St. Clair of Wolfville.
Running from July 13 - August 6, this “charming, disarming comedy-with-music” follows Agnes and Michael through their tender, touching, and often tumultuous journey as husband and wife. The play spans 50 years of wedded bliss (or sometimes not so blissful) from the naive hopefulness of the wedding day through the joy and challenges of “’til death do us part”.
I Do! I Do! features a hit song, My Cup Runneth Over and showcases in the leading roles the talents of Nova Scotia musical theatre favourites, Amy Stewart Reitsma, an alumna of Queen’s University and the UK’s Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and Ian Gilmore, an alumnus of The Canadian School of Performing Arts.
Reitsma’s dynamic performance in the Chester Playhouse production of Ruthless! The Stage Mother of All Musicals was nominated for a 2017 Theatre Nova Scotia Merritt Award. Gilmore recently delighted audiences with his heartfelt performance in Tompkinsville, an acclaimed new Nova Scotia play by Lyndsay Kyte presented by Eastern Front Theatre/Go Fly a Kyte.
Designers for I DO! I DO! include Danielle Wilson for set, Helena Marriott for costumes, and Bruce MacLennan on lighting design, with choreography by Veronique MacKenzie. Hannah Burrows stage manages.
An award-winning independent theatre company whose productions have received wide recognition and critical acclaim, Valley Summer Theatre will again offer to audiences professional productions presented at Acadia Cinema’s Al Whittle Theatre, located at 450 Main St.
