March 18 was final day for Fairlanes Bowling
NEW MINAS NS – Many of the young families playing together at the Fairlanes Bowling Centre on Commercial Street in New Minas did not know March 18 was closing day.
Weirdos, previously titled Nineteenseventysomething, was partly filmed in Windsor in 2015.
WINDSOR, N.S. - Weirdos, a Canadian produced film with a very Canadian story, partially filmed in Windsor, won two awards at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Molly Parker won best performance by an actress in a supporting role playing the protagonist’s mother Laura. Parker is also known for her role as Jackie Sharpe in the Netflix drama House of Cards.
Canadian writer Daniel MacIvor also won the award for best original screenplay.
Wierdos was also nominated for achievement in costume design, achievement in editing, and best motion picture.
The film is described as a quirky coming-of-age story where a young man and his girlfriend take a roadtrip to Cape Breton in the 1970s.
When the indie flick was being flimed in Windsor back in 2015, it was titled Nineteenseventysomething and was being worked on in the shadow of cuts to the provincial film tax credit.

Allan Hawco, an actor and writer known for his leading role on the Republic of Doyle, is one of the well-known Canadian performers in the production.
