MIDDLETON - A gofundme campaign has been launched to help bring a former Middleton man home after he died in Thailand on Oct. 9.
The campaign, started on Oct. 10 by friend Brandy Alexander, said James G. Butler, 28, died suddenly and unexpectedly while on a trip in Thailand with his fiancé.
“James spent his life helping others,” she said. “He was in the Canadian Armed Forces, served a tour in Afghanistan, and upon his retirement from the forces, worked as a life coach helping veterans. He was the kind of man who touched everyone he met.”
She said that during his short life, James had been compared to many famous people because of his eccentric personality but beneath it all was the most caring and loving guy anyone could ever know.
“He was equal parts comedian, humanitarian, warrior and all around great guy,” she said.
James Butler went to Middleton Regional High School.
She said the cost of bringing James home will be upwards $5,000, and doesn’t cover the cost of medical bills in Thailand, and funeral fees in both Ontario, and British Columbia where James will be put to rest.
“At this time, we are asking for anything you are able to offer, in order to bring an extraordinary man home,” she said.
The $15,000 goal has been surpassed in just 18 hours.
